  • Order of the Magi
Connor Pritchard is an author, television producer and co-creator of Comedy Central's, Workaholics. His little sister gave him this idea after bringing him a copy of The Mystic Test Book, which explained the mathematical connection between astrology and modern-day playing cards. Connor hired me to create a deck inspired by the cards depicted in his most recent book, The Order of the Magi.

  • 01—The Type Collective
The Type Collective is a project initiated by eight designers: Andrei Ogradă, Alex Beltechi, Felix Hornoiu, Vlad Neuman, Koma, Nicu Duta, Octavian Budai & Vian Peanu. The idea was first brought up at an event held in Bucharest and quickly developed into the collaborative effort it is today—a playground dedicated to those who wish to experiment with typography and lettering. Realizing that such a thing has not yet been attempted in this neck of the woods, we decided to join forces and make it happen. These days we try to update the blog with nothing but our very own sketches, explorations and finished work.

During the month of February 2013, we organized our first exhibition, which also happens to be the first of its kind in Bucharest. We are very pleased with the outcome and we hope to do it again soon! We're also interested in featuring guest artists for our next edition. If you think you've got the stones, drop us a line via the website!

  • Petru Andras
Peter Andras is an artist and personal friend based in Beius, Romania. He was my mentor for a while and taught me the basics of art and drawing. While creating a visual identity system for his work, I aimed to make the final work unconventional and a reflection of art itself.

People like to create conflict between art and design but my attempt was to merge concepts from both just as a painter mixes his colors. That's how the graphic symbol was born. The color palette is inspired by swatches taken from a sunset sky. I then imagined how I would mix these colors in a fluid-like motion and created a spacial representation of that event.

The final graphic is rendered in 3D software and can be multiplied and manipulated from various angles to create several grafical motifs. These elements were later used in the stationery I designed for him.

  • The Corvin Castle
The Corvin Castle is a gothic-renaissance castle in Hunedoara, Romania. These are the photos I took during our two hour visit. This is probably my favorite site in Romania. I love the beaten-down look of the structure and simple architecture, so I went fo an amateurish approach rather than worrying about capturing as much of the structure in each angle. I think there are plenty of such images out there. I was looking for a more honest and intimate record of events.

  • The Redditor
The Redditor is a DIY digital magazine created entirely from original content posted on reddit.com. I was tasked to create four chapter pages that are based on the site's sub-reddits (threads). In order of appearance, they are /askreddit - a thread dedicated to asking and answering questions; /ama - "ask me anything" is a sort of interview where a person tells all; /stories - a place where people tell factual or fictional events; /pics - the thread for sharing interesting photographs.

  • Twisting in the Wind
Starting a career as a graphic designer often feels like twisting in the wind. It's great to have mentors and work that inspires you, but in the end, you're the one that has to ride out the storm.

  • Lights Out
The task here was to achieve light painting techniques used in photography by creating them from scratch. This was done using image editing software instead of the more common method of photographing moving light. Such an approach can be good for legibility and aesthetics, as writing with a laser pointer can be a tricky matter.
